7 Days holiday in Morocco – One Week Tour Itinerary from Tangier

Say goodbye to Chefchaouen and make the journey to the fascinating Fes City. Along the way, stop to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Volubilis. This was once a provincial Roman capital, a distant outpost of the empire, and the remains make an undeniably impressive sight. Later-on, we move on to the former capital of Morocco – Meknes, also known as the Versailles of Morocco due to its impressive buildings and elaborate monuments. After a leisurely lunch, we travel on to Fes in the afternoon. Fes is the oldest and largest medieval city in the world, and its Medina is a heady mix of aromas, sounds and sights. Pass by Bab Mansour gate, beautifully patterned with zellij mosaics.

In the mid-morning, go on a half-day guided tour of the old town, known locally as Fes el Bali, a paradise of local handy-made craft work with colorful Moroccan styles, leather-work, metalwork. Besides, Fes is one of the world’s great centers of education and culture, both Islamic and Jewish. Your local guide will share stories of the city’s history as you walk through the twisting streets and epic alleyways, passing donkeys piled high with goods, and explore the specialty sections that divide the souk.

 The tour includes stops at the King’s Palace, the tanneries, Al Qaraouine university and the Attarine Madrasa. As well as a stop at a Mosaic museum to learn more about this unique activity which is famous in the region. Lastly, the panoramic view of the Medina, where you can see clearly how big this Medina is. By the end of the walk, you’ll be at Bab Boujloud, “Blue Gate” and then you have the afternoon at leisure for individual exploration.

Today, embark on a scenic drive over the Middle Atlas Mountains through Giant pine trees, wind past olive groves, shepherds tending to their flocks and also Cedar Forests. En route, stop in Ifrane, a charming ski resort. Afterward, continue to Midelt via the Cedar Forest, where you may like to stop to see the Barbary macaques, which can often be seen roaming the forest in search of food. Later-on we head out towards the Erg Chebbi dunes located near the remote frontier town of Merzouga. It’s one of the world’s iconic landscapes, with towering dunes up to 150 m in height. As you approach Erfoud, admire views of the remarkable Ziz Oasis and vast valleys.

 Upon arrival at the destination, ride your camel into the Sahara Desert towards your campsite. A spectacular camp hidden away in the sand dunes of the Sahara. Here in this magical escape from the modern world, you’ll experience the true essence of desert life. Make sure to catch the sunset in the heart of the desert. In addition to that, enjoy a nice dinner, followed by live Berber music around an open fire and spend an amazing night under an endless canopy of Saharan stars, digest the desert in all its beauty that will give you remarkable memories of the desert trip exploring.

After a truly stunning sunrise, freshen up and breakfast in your camp, depart Erg Chebbi dunes and set off on the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the gorge of Todra. Surrounded by towering vertical limestone cliffs reaching heights of 300 m to form one of the most dramatic and spectacular natural sights in Morocco. Moreover, it’s a popular destination for hikers, climbers and nature enthusiasts who come to discover the rugged terrain and enjoy the stunning views.

 There’ll be time to marvel at this sight before you continue your journey to Ouarzazate – the Hollywood of North Africa. Along the road of The Rose Valley and a Thousand Kasbahs. There will be an opportunity to stop to see the variety of rose products which are produced by the locals. After some free time and lunch in Kalaat M’gouna, continue on to Ouarzazate, famous for being the filming location for many other Hollywood blockbusters and famous TV shows including «Lawrence of Arabia», «Jewel of the Nile». After check-in at your hotel, time to relax before dinner.

After breakfast depart Ouarzazate for Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a stunningly well-preserved medieval village which has famously featured in many blockbuster movies, including Gladiator, The living daylights and many more. After a visit to the Kasbah of Ait ben haddou, then drive across the great High Atlas Mountains. Climbing over the pass of Tizi N’tichka, continue onwards with marvelous views over the Mountains and also vast valleys to Marrakech. Once here, go on a guided tour of the Medina through the bustling souks that are the lifeblood of the city. Furthermore, discover Ben Youssef Madrasa, The Palace of the Bahia, The Saadian Tombs, and many other hidden treasures with your Local guide who will bring the magic of the southern pearl of Morocco to life.

Afterward, you will continue with the tour on to the magnificent Koutoubia Mosque, non-Muslims are not allowed in, however the famous minaret is a sight to behold. The balance of the day is free for you to explore the lively hustle of Jemaa El Fna square, consider a visit to Le Jardin Secret «a traditional Medina garden with a magnificent courtyard» or just simply relax at the Riad/Hotel.

Merzouga Desert is approximately 670 kilometers (416 miles) southeast of Tangier. Travel time by car or bus is around 10 to 11 hours.

Some highlights include the Kasbah, Medina, Hercules Cave, and the American Legation Museum. Don’t forget to explore the vibrant markets and enjoy the coastal views.

Spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) are ideal for Tangier. Merzouga is best visited during the cooler months of October to April to avoid extreme desert temperatures.

It’s recommended to pack comfortable clothing suitable for warm weather during the day and cooler temperatures at night. Essentials include sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a scarf for protection from the desert wind, comfortable shoes for walking, and a small backpack for personal items. It’s also advisable to bring a camera to capture the stunning landscapes and memorable moments.

The camel trek is about an hour, with a break in the heart of the desert in order to witness the sunset. If you prefer to walk, then you can walk alongside our camel caravan, but bear in mind that walking in the sand can be tiring.
